corporate website! We are currently revising our site to reflect the exciting
changes taking place within our Corporation.
As President and CEO of DDS, I’d like to share with you a
bit of our history and experiences garnered throughout the years, that have
enabled us to achieve our quality reputation.
In
April of 1978, I opened the doors for business, offering sales and service on
point-of-sale computers to franchised McDonald’s, Burger King’s, and other
chain style restaurants throughout the state of PA. My successful background
in sales and management for XEROX in the early 70’s helped, but I quickly
recognized that there was so much more required to operate a flourishing small
business. I often joked that DDS was my ‘youngest child’, since the experience
was not dissimilar to raising them. Like my children, I have observed
firsthand the many changes my company has gone through…and the many adjustments
necessary to make the experience a success. While one might observe that
twenty-six years of continuous operation is admirable for any small business,
it is a particularly difficult feat in the Information Technology (IT)
industry, where a more typical life span may be measured in terms of months or
a few years. We have evolved!
Today,
we are once again changing, refining our focus to emphasize a core set of
service offerings for Commonwealth and Federal Government Agencies for both Pennsylvania and
neighboring states. This is a market in which we have performed admirably
in the past, and one that we will now pursue exclusively. Our most recent
project was an engagement with the Pennsylvania Game Commission, tasked with
performing a feasibility study for the acquisition of an Automated Licensing
System for PA constituents. In addition to enjoying the experience
tremendously, our recommendations will likely modernize Pennsylvania’s
licensing process resulting in discrete benefits for government, the private
sector, and the sporting enthusiast. We have provided consulting services for

Other recent events include my active involvement in 2004
as Chairperson for the TCCP Tech Council Sub-Committee for PA Disadvantaged
Businesses. This committee was charged with defining and presenting the
concerns and issues of both Minority and Women-Owned Businesses as input to
Governor Rendell’s newly reorganized Bureau of Minority and Women Business
Opportunities.
In the year 2003, I was also fortunate to be recognized by
the PA Department of Community and Economic Development as one of “PA’s 50 Best
Women-Business Owners”.
Both
of these milestones were significant in providing DDS credibility and
recognition as a reputable firm within the PA Region. The benefits derived
grew exponentially as I was afforded the opportunity to counsel many
individuals in various pioneering stages of developing their own businesses ---
owners that sought guidance from firms like mine who have traversed the long
and hard pathway of private business ownership.
As
we redirect our attention to a more narrowed ‘niche’ market, we are continually
refining our professional skills and developing more enriched business
relationships with the many Agencies and professional businesses that also
serve the State and Federal Governments. We are proud to represent small
businesses that are among the many in PA in providing employment opportunities
for the local and professional talent found within our community.
